Our teeth is very important to us especially when we are eating, smiling, and speaking. If an individual has a crooked teeth, it can affect his speaking and eating and can result to gum disease, which makes it much harder because it is so expensive to have gum disease treatment. Having crooked teeth, according to experts, can decrease the self esteem of an individual; thus causing social handicap for that person. The branch of dentistry that deals with the mentioned issues is known as orthodontics. Orthodontists are concerned with the irregularities about the teeth and it is their job to correct it. Surprisingly well designed early orthodontic braces have been brought to light in Greek and Etruscan archaeological finds. Today, orthodontists in most parts of the world are fixing these teeth problems. They have to have a expert knowledge of the maturation and growth of teeth and jaws and the bordering muscles and tissues. Today, orthodontics can satisfy many of the needs of those who have tooth and jaw problems, including those who desire to smile without being self conscious about their teeth. It is up to the individual if he wants to use the service of an orthodontist or not. For the time being, mankind has to reckon with physical imperfections, some of which may be alleviated by corrective measures. Nonetheless, we are looking forward to being in the new world that God promised where there are no imperfections anymore. Then, in that new arrangement of perfect wellness, each of us will be able to offer confidently an affectionate, friendly smile to everyone we encounter.
