I received a surprise in my mailbox today

I received a surprise in my mailbox today, a colorful and definitely catchy envelope that I tore open rather quickly and from inside the envelope fell two pre approved credit card offers, supposedly for me and my wife. I last used a credit card two years ago and I have been living plastic-free ever since and paid cash for all my family’s purchases. To help finance for our romantic wedding at Hawaii, memorable honeymoon stay at the Caesars Palace in Vegas and appliances and furnishings for our house in Orange County, California, at that time , I had a Visa credit card from US Bank with a $75,000 credit limit. I had to apply for that credit card by filling out an online form at the US Bank website and had to wait weeks before my credit card application was approved back then, so I wondered how I became to be pre-approved for a credit card. A pre-approved credit card offer means, the issuing bank has my personal information which they based my approval on, based on my Google research, like my previous credit standing with US bank, credit limit, preferred merchants, actual merchants that I used the credit card at. The literature that came with the credit card offer says that all I need to do is to fill out the form, send it back to the issuing credit card company – postage free – and wait for the final approval for my card. Luckily, I had a good credit card standing with US Bank and I read and keep all my credit reports so I know that I am likely to get approved. A lower interest rate is what this new credit card issuer offered, compared to my previous credit card and also offered several perk such as access to select concerts and major sports events.
